Welcome to stepstudy.org

Our mission is to help recovering people make informed decisions about how they will understand and practice their recovery program.  To this end, we aim to provide our readers with articles and texts of importance to the development of the Twelve Steps, as well as detailed analysis of particular approaches to Stepwork.

stepstudy.org is NOT a treatment provider. For quality Twelve Step facilitation in a retreat-center setting, we recommend The Plymouth House.

Pictured above from left to right: Bill Wilson, Dr. Bob, Jimmy Kinnon, Lois Wilson, Sam Shoemaker, and Frank Buchman.

NEW: 11/11/07 We've scanned some pages of the Sotheby's catalog which featured pages of the working manuscript of the Big Book. These are worthy of some careful study. You'll notice, among other things, an effort to eliminate passages that sound too much like the Oxford Group.

Also: A few new AA-related videos worth watching have hit the net. Here is Bill Wilson discussing the Traditions and telling his story. Here is old Father Joe doing his thing, and here are some AA-made PSA videos (Promotion rather than attraction? You decide).

8/07 The All Addicts Anonymous site is finally up! All Addicts Anonymous was founded in the 50s by an AA oldtimer who entered that fellowship in the early 40s—Tom Powers. Twelve Step history buffs will recognize that name; Tom Powers Jr. wrote the widely read article Gresham's Law. The All Addicts Anonymous site has many articles of interest, including Norman Vincent Peale's article on the Twelve Steps.

Other links of interests: A decent site for those interested in Buddhism and Recovery. Jung and AA on youtube. And AA youtuber Doug D has posted a few history videos online.

6/22/07 BIG BOOK MANUSCRIPT BOUGHT AT AUCTION—the original working manuscript of Alcohohlics Anonymous was sold by Sotheby's in New York to Ken R., who has launched a website to inform the public about this valuable piece of history.

A few other links of interest: Initiaves of Change, the modern-day manifestation of the Oxford Group, offers the full text of a Frank Buchman Biography. More Revealed offers the full text of many classic works of AA criticism, including Cult or Cure? and 12-Step Horror Stories.

4/22/07 WE NEED YOUR HELP—We are working on a second draft of Becoming Recovered. If you've read the book, and have an idea about how it could be improved, drop us a line using our contact us page.

2/26/07 Check out our review of Glenn Chesnut's latest book on V.C. Kitchen, the Oxford Group, and AA. Also noteworthy is Glenn's AA History Lover's Group over at yahoo.

2/15/07 Hindsfoot foundation! We're a little late to the game here, but Glenn C. of Indiana has an excellent website and publishing house for materials on AA history.

Also check out the The Secret of Guidance by F.B. Meyer, a theologian whose work considerably influenced Frank Buchman and the Oxford Group.

1/4/07 Recovery U has a free video series on the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Twelve Steps. Check it out here.

Fourth Step worksheets for use with the AA Big Book, Becoming Recovered, and the Unpublished NA Fourth Step Guides: Resentment, Fear, Sex.

8/5/06: Becoming Recovered (a new guide to the spirituality and practice of the Twelve Steps now available for download)
