My name is Craig M. I am a recovered alcoholic/addict, and have been for the past 28 years. I quit drinking at the age of 20, and in following years I accepted Christ and all of that jazz, and truely attempted to practice the Christian life. However, the other christians around me and my family were hurtful and I have since left the church. This message is still timely for Christian churches because AA realized from teh beginning that a change of soul is what is required to change your life, and I did not see this emphasis in the church.

The AA program as well as other 12 step programs like it are, in my opinon, the church. I've been attending meeting for about 2 years but I've been going to church and saved since 1993. For years I couldn't figure out why I kept struggling with sin and alcohol. I would talk to pastors and fellow christian about my problems and the typical answer would be, "Just keep coming to church, stay in your bible and keep praying." I've been there and done that as well as responding to alter call after alter call. "What other good thing must I do to gain salvation?" 'Til finally, a member of the church and veteran AA member introduced me to a Creating a Sober World meeting which is a bible based AA meeting, and coupling that with other AA meeting. It's exactly what every church needs even if you're not an alcoholic, we are addicted to self-centerness, and the AA program deals with that.
